Hi, I'm Joe.
I'm a teacher at the Canadian International School, located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It's a dual curriculum school that delivers the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) curriculum, as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).
My background in education comes from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto (OISE/UT).
In the Ontario curriculum, my focus is on Business Studies, Career Studies, and English/Language Arts at the Intermediate/Senior levels. In the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, I've received certification to teach Business Management, and I've also been the Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) coordinator at my school for the past two years.
When I'm not in the classroom, I supervise the activities of the Global Issues Network (GIN) Council at my school.
My practice is informed by consistent professional development. Since completing my B.Ed. at OISE, I've completed ESL Specialist qualifications, along with Guidance/Career Counselling (parts 1 and 2), through the Ontario College of Teachers. To maintain my ability to teach computer hardware maintenance and troubleshooting, I've also completed CISCO NetAcad Instructor training. Finally, I'm pursuing a certificate in US College Counselling through the University of California San Diego, and I expect to satisfy program requirements by 2020. On the mental health side, I've completed certification in ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).
Before I became a teacher, I developed a professional background in corporate communications and public relations. In particular, I worked in social media, graphic design, strategic planning, and event coordination.
